An optical archive solution is a cost-effective data store, providing permanent information storage. This enables  optimizing and utilizing costly primary disk storage for its intended tasks, such as real-time database access, work in progress information processing etc., while migrating unstructured data such as PDF, or seldom accessed documents to the archive (the third store).  Backup tasks to Tape or Disk (the second Store) are reduced while improving the backup window. The long-term  Archive TCO is reduced drastically compared to disk based solutions. Operations, Power and cooling costs are minimal when compared to disk based long-term data retention solutions.

The Archive Appliance is modular in design and consists of  Servers with up to 35 Terabytes of Cache and from 4 to 280 Terabytes of online WORM archive storage consisting of Blu-ray II media. This media is certified for data retention in excess of fifty years.

 

The HSM software provides for staging and transposing archive data to the permanent media, maintain data directory and handle the replication of the archive data to the backup site.

 

The-e-discovery software will interogate the LUN directories for data destined for archiving based on client definitions. The e-discovery software will move, copy or migrate the data to the archive and maintain the directory entries for data retrieval from the archive to transparently re-direct access to data.
